A New Project

I have been really excited about this particular project. It’s not often you get to create something that never existed before, to fill a very big need.

Vesi Belt

Introducing the Vesi Belt.

A Vesicostomy is a surgical procedure that allows the bladder to empty out through a hole below the belly button.

The stoma (hole) is just open, allowing urine to drain out constantly. This is a good thing medically for those who need it, but you can imagine what a diapering and clothing nightmare it turns out to be.

Many families buy giant size disposables and adapt them to fit their babies or toddlers, or double diaper with disposables. This is usually a less than satisfactory solution, as a quick web search will show. Almost nobody likes this solution.

And what about families who want to use cloth diapers? They have had no options.

Until now. That’s why I’m so excited about this.

Please note, if you don’t already own cloth diapers that you like, or if you prefer a one-piece, custom system, I can always adapt regular pocket style or fitted style diapers and covers to be extra tall for your child with a Vesi.

Please note, Genna does not have a Vesicostomy, and this Vesi Belt is not stuffed which is why it looks so weird. She’s rocking the Blues Clues panties, though.

Vesi Belts will be available when LemonDrops gets ready to open this fall.

  1. WOW…This looks GREAT! I hope it works for my grandson Eli. Ready to potty train but no hope for it until this little dribble can be taken care of….Thank you SO Much for your time and work on this. Good luck!

  2. Are these available to purchase yet? We have a 3 year old who has had a vesi for 2 years now and the double diapering is not working anymore.

    • Not quite yet, Lydia. I’m still working on consumer testing, and it’s between slow going. If you’re interested in being a tester, please contact me at sarah at wallypop dot net

  3. Hi Sarah, I am from the University of Central Lancashire in the UK. We are working with the School of Health and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital to design and produce a product specifically for children who have had a vesicostomy. After finding your post during my research I was very interested to find out how the product has developed and your consumer testing has gone?

If you have the time to email me about your product I would love to speak to you about it!

    My email is miller@uclan.ac.uk

Look forward to hearing from you!

    Helen Miller

Is this product available for purchase or a pattern to make this? I’ve been asked to make some.
