Hi, I am Sarah, owner of Wallypop (wallypop.net) and Boulevard Designs (boulevarddesigns.etsy.com). I homeschool, work from home, and, along with my husband, raise 3 kids, one of whom has special and medical needs. Turn ons are people who are polite, honesty, and really good root beer. Turn offs are mean people and people who make my life more difficult.

  1. Aahhahah! So cute! I totally want to do this to my prefolds. You have to tell me how much trouble it was. Did you wash the prefolds before dieing them?

    1. Yes, I washed them twice, just as I would before using them (to fluff and remove oils, etc). And you really should wash ANYTHING you’re going to dye.
Prefolds absorb a LOT of dye, so buy more than you need. I use fiber-reactive dyes from Dharma, really nice and permanent. I believe RIT would work, as well, though I’ve never dyed dipes with RIT. I would expect, based on my experience with other items dyed using RIT, the colors would be a little less bright and less colorfast. It’s super fun, though. Diapers are a great place to start dyeing, because if you mess up… they’re just diapers, you know? You can still use them. But if you really mess up a T-shirt, it usually doesn’t get worn much.
